Cannot connect for ftp (or indeed directly to access site)

I have found my altervista site working fine up until now, but it seems to have gone off-line.

Filezilla reports as follows:

Status: Resolving address of ftp.dhft.altervista.org
Status: Connecting to 78.129.205.38:21...
Error: Connection timed out after 20 seconds of inactivity
Error: Could not connect to server
Status: Waiting to retry...

Attempting to sign in to my account also fails, as do attempts to access my files.

Is this just "scheduled downtime" and if so can I please be advised of what availability is offered?
