Unhappy My Joomla keeps saying PHP 5.3.10 but I need higher version :(

    Hi!

So I changed (days ago) the version of PHP in my AlterVista panel to 5.6
Also checked advanced tab it says:
    Code:
    # # av:php5-engine
    AddHandler av-php56 .php
    STILL...
When I log into my joomla admin panel, it says I am still on 5.3.10!
    What to do?

I need higher version to update a plugin and keep getting error:

    Code:
    Error
This extension is not compatible with PHP 5.3.10. You need PHP 5.3.13 or higher to be able to install and use this extension.
