    Default Problem with .htaccess Auth

    Try to reach:
    http://fasanen.altervista.org/test_protected/index.html (It is a free altervista account)

    Error 500 :( An error occurred. This error may be due to an erroneus .htaccess file, added by you or by a script in the current directory.

    ------------
    In the folder "/test_protected" is the file ".htaccess":

    AuthType Basic
    AuthName "test"
    AuthUserFile /membri/fasanen/test_password/.htpasswd
    Require valid-user

    -----
    In the folder "/test_password" is the file ".htpasswd"

    Have you tried the password protection function in your contol panel (file management)?

    Thank you for your quick answer!
    That worked.

    In the automatically created .htaccess-file, it looks like the "<Limit GET POST> is necessary??:

    AuthType Basic
    AuthName reserved_area
    AuthUserFile "/membri/fasanen/test_protected/.htpasswd"
    <Limit GET POST>
    require valid-user
    </Limit>

    I'm getting the same error, but I can't figure out how to resolve it. I tried deleting the file, change it, all kinds of things. Any further suggestions?

    But I don't know what any of this does. I'm to migrate a website from an old host to altervista and this is what it was on the old server (when it all worked fine)

    Still getting the same error message. Any new ideas? I know it says there is a problem with the htaccess file, but could it be something else?
