Wordpress Jetpack plugin is no longer working

I've been using it for weeks, but had to disable it to see if it was the cause of another issue (html links not showing on pages (couldn't fix that either)). Now that I'm trying to activate it again, I'm getting the error:

Your website needs to be publicly accessible to use Jetpack: site_inaccessible

Error Details: The Jetpack server was unable to communicate with your site [HTTP 403]. Ask your web host if they allow connections from WordPress.com. If you need further assistance, contact Jetpack Support: Support ? Jetpack for WordPress

Has AlterVista changed something recently to cause this?

have you unlocked Server to server connections?

I haven't, but wordpress is in the whitelist, so I shouldn't have to.
