Altervista Keith theme - Photo size?

Hi, So I'm pretty new at all this but plodding along ok so far. I need to add some photos to my site but I'm confused by all this image size and dpi etc... I have a number of photos that I can convert size wise but I'm not sure what figures I should be putting in? Do I alter the DPI or the pixel width and to what figure?
Any help would be really appreciated!

There are many online articles that explain these things, see here (you should consider height and width).

It also depends on the importance of the image: if a page is based on photos, then it would be good to have it at high resolution (for example a picture site); if it's a non-important button or image, it should be small to avoid overloading the page.
