External Database Queries (access)

Hello,
is there a way I can use my MySQL database (from my website) with queries and such from an external program, like a Java application? I can't seem to find the host to use in order to connect (it says localhost, but I can't use that since I'm not in local mode), and using <website>.altervista.org as the host is not working.

You can only access to your database from your web space, it is not accessible in other ways.
