Problem with file management and making my website 'live'

I have uploaded my html and css files from my computer to the file management bit, but now I don't what I need to do, in order for my website to become live.

When you finish the upload your website is live. If you see an older version please try to clear your browser cache.

That's true, I see my site if I use the URL cityphotos.altervista.org/index.html but do not see under cityphotos.altervista.org. Is it possible to see it like that also? what has the default file be named?

Did you clear your browser cache? I see the same page at the two address you wrote.
