Is there a way to connect a domain I already own to my account so people can visit that instead of my altervista subdomain? All I see in the domains section is to register a domain, I don't see how to point my existing domain over and use that. Hope you can help.

With WordPress by AlterVista the domain will be configured automatically. It will be also a 301 redirect from yourname.altervista.org to yoursite.tld

In "standard" hosting account, you have to set a redirect 301 from yourname.altervista.org to yoursite.tld, for example with .htaccess.
