How do you get Alterpages instead of Wordpress

How do you change to Alterpages rather than Wordpress? I have used Alterpages before and its very simple where as I cant get anything to work with Wordpress. Its far too complicated.

Issue is I cant even get started. with Alterpages you chose the template then it was very simple to add to / modify. This wordpress thing is very complicated and everything keeps trying to drag you toward a blog instead of a simple web page.

You can change the theme from: Appearance -> Theme.

I suggest you to:

• create a page (Page -> Add new)
• Insert some content by the visual interface
• Set the page as homepage (from Settings -> Reading -> Your homepage displays -> (select) A static page (select below), then select the page created.

I have tried to follow this - I create a page but when I go to setting - reading this is all I get. I can not find anything at all that refers to homepage

The Line Your Homepage Displays doesnt show at all on mine and Enable Post Rank for Type Content only shows one heading - Posts
